Food System Assessment - CARAT

Picture
The WMFC is completing a regional food system assessment, which will give us the information we need to help make our farms more resilient, our food access programs more impactful, and our region more adaptable to unforeseen events. (And, of course, this will help us to potentially find grant funding to help our farms and food access points!)

To do this regional assessment, we're using the CARAT Tool.  CARAT (Community & Agriculture Resilience Audit Tool) is an assessment tool created by the North American Food Systems Network to help communities find out how resilient their food system is.  We are lucky to have been chosen to participate in the 2nd Cohort of the CARAT Tool this year!

What does this mean?
We'll be surveying and interviewing key people across Garrett, Allegany and Washington Counties in the food system (food producers/farmers, processors, health care, food access programs, etc.) to find what needs addressed across our food system.

Watch your email for a survey soon!  You can do an online or pdf/printed survey (both will be included in the email).  The email will come from our coordinator at [email protected]

Once the surveys are in, we'll finish the assessment and deliver a report (or multiple reports) with information to guide our efforts that will be used to make our food system more resilient!
